What a great tournament this weekend!
The Friday night workout was fantastic. It’s always awesome to work with Sensei Ron and Sensei Rathe.
The tournament was also great! All of the divisions were fun to watch and the spirit of support and encouragement was apparent all around the dojo.
As always, the judging senseis were so helpful during the tournament by guiding the younger karateka through proper ring etiquette when they forgot (sometimes even the older students!) and providing feedback to the competitors at the conclusion of the division.
Sensei Ron and Sensei Rathe were their usual amazing selves! They most likely spoke to nearly everyone at the tournament and were always available to answer questions and give advice. Sensei Ron even went “carnival” for a moment and drew some kanji on the arms of excited young competitors.
The demonstrations were also excellent. Sensei Ron, with narration by Sensei Rathe, did an amazing demonstration of the sword martial art of Iaido. This was followed by Sensei Andrew, Kevin, and Ashton in an energetic demonstration of a “real-world” scenario where a person might use their shindo training. Sensei Ron and Sensei Rathe then performed another demonstration of Kushanku with Sensei Ron using a shindo to demonstrate the connection between Sensei Shintani’s shindo and karate. The final presentation was a short video about the life of Sensei Shintani which moved into the development of the National Wad0-Kai Team. It was a great break in the tournament action. Thank you to everyone who participated in the demonstrations.
Our iPod Touch was won by young Jeremy from Alberta. I know his dad will be happy because now he can get his iPhone back from his kids!
Thanks to everyone for all of the help in all aspects of the tournament. Without great volunteers, willing to jump in when needed, these tournaments would never succeed.
Our 25th. Anniversary Tournament was a success in every possible way thanks to you.
See you at our next workout!
Our new t-shirts sold like crazy! The men’s shirts were sold out before lunch!
We will be ordering more shirts soon so anyone, from any club reading this, is welcome to order. If you are from another club, please send your order to firstname.lastname@example.org and we will be sure to add it to our list.
We will be taking orders in our home dojo over the next few classes.
