We are putting together an email list so we can easily notify you of last-minute changes or class cancellations due to weather. We will not be using the email list regularly so you don’t have to worry about being spammed by us!! It will only be an occasional notice.
Good work out last night, everyone! For many of you it was your first introduction to “Kata” and you did very well. Always remember to keep an idea of realism in your kata. This helps to keep it fresh and energetic. Here are a couple of quotes from our Shintani Federation grading manual regarding kata:
“KATA Meaning – The kata is an artistic presentation in which all movement is defense and counter attack, and put together in a refined manner with no wasted effort. Karate is and concentrates on defense.”
“Adult division kata will be judged bearing in mind two qualities: Artistic Impression and Technical Merit. Technical merit will examine the fundamental concepts of the Kata, and artistic impression will examine the effort and spirit of the competitor.”
With those thoughts in mind, always perform your kata, and the other techniques during the workout, with great effort and spirit. The manner in which you train will be reflected in the way in which you defend yourself if a situation arises. Remember, practice DOES NOT make perfect. Practice makes PERMANENT! Only Perfect Practice makes Perfect. If you have a question about anything please don’t hesitate to ask a sensei. They are our teachers and they love to help.

We would just like to thank and welcome Sensei Scott Bax who joined us from his Weyburn dojo for our workout last night! It is always fun when a visiting sensei joins us. We hope you come again, Sensei!
Our new members are encouraged to check out the “Dictionary” section of our web site to remind yourselves of some of the terms you heard last night. Words like “tsuki” (punch), “mae geri” (front snap kick), “kiba dachi” (horse stance), and “zenkutzo dachi” (front stance) are common terms used at every workout. And don’t forget to practice! Try walking around the house in zenkutzo dachi for a while… remember to keep your head level!!

What a great turn-out last night! It was awesome to see so many new faces in our dojo! It was also great to see our “regulars” back for the new season.

Wow! What a great turn-out at the pre-registration night held last night! If you missed the pre-registration, you can still come out and register at any regular class.

JUST FOR KICKS: 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
ADULT/JUNIOR: 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
ADULT/ADVANCED JUNIOR: 8:30 p.m. to around 9:30 p.m.
