Great day for a Barbeque!! #shintanijapan16

It was a great day for the BBQ fundraiser held by Sempai Marlee and Sensei Quinn!

It was great to see many people come out to support our young athletes.

Marlee and Quinn would like to thank all of the people who helped them put on today’s event, and they would also like to thank all of the businesses and individuals who donated items for their raffle.

Good luck to Marlee and Quinn as they continue to train and prepare for the event in Japan.

See you at the dojo!

Next stop… JAPAN!!! Fundraiser BBQ

That’s right, Sensei Quinn and Sempai Marlee will be travelling to Japan in September with the Shintani National Team to participate in an international karate competition!

They will be holding a lunch BBQ as a fundraiser.

The BBQ will be on Friday, August 5th from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. It will be in the lot on the Corner of Main Street and Souris Ave in Carlyle.

Come buy a burger and help give these guys an experience of a lifetime! There will also be some raffle items that have been donated by local businesses.

See you on Main Street!!

SUMMER’S HERE!!!!

… but that doesn’t mean forget about doing karate!!

Summer is an awesome time of year to work on your karate. You can practice outside, barefoot in the grass, in the pool using water as resistance training, on the beach with the warm sand splashing between your toes, etc. There are many ways to enjoy a karate workout in the summer. A great way to settle down after a busy day of activity is to do a few katas in slow motion, maybe even with your eyes closed. It can be very relaxing.

Be sure to keep checking here through the summer. We always try to post some interesting items through the summer holidays.

Have a great summer!

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Sensei Michel Gosselin on being elected to the SWKKF Senate

Many of our members will remember Sensei Michel from our 30th Anniversary tournament where he led an exciting National Team workout with Sensei Heather and helped out with an awesome tournament clinic.

Abernethy = Awesome! #iainabernethy

Sensei Savanna and Sensei Kevin attended a seminar in Winnipeg by world renowned “practical” karate expert, Sensei Iain Abernethy.

Sensei Iain is an expert in “real world” application of karate techniques as shown to us in our various katas.

The workshop was incredible! Sensei Iain is wealth of martial knowledge. He has intimate knowledge of kata and many ways that we can take the somewhat stylized techniques and use them for defence and protection. He also has great knowledge of the history of karate and the martial arts. He shares both freely and with great zest and interest.

The photo with the large group is the entire group of participants at the seminar. The smaller group photo are the Shintani Federation members who attended (we are missing 4 or 5 out of that pic).

Congratulations… and thank you!

Congratulations to everyone for awesome grading sessions! Everyone who came out had the best karate night of their year! Way to go!

We would also like to wish good luck to Sensei Quinn and Sempai Marlee as they travel to the Western Canadian Karate Championships in Calgary. We know they will do well!!

The Senseis would like to thank everyone for another awesome year of karate! We have some awesome events in the planning stages for next year that we know everyone will be excited about. We would especially like to thank all of the parents who helped their children attend karate classes. Without you, we would be only a fraction of what we are! We also appreciate the many hours of volunteering that was done by everyone in our club this year at the bottle drive, 2 provincial tournaments, our wind-up, and all of the day-to-day help of running our organization!

Keep checking here through the off-season.

See you in the fall!
