Starting to get ready!

Hopefully everyone is having a good summer!

The Senseis of Moose Mountain Wado Kai Karate have begun chatting about the new season which will begin in early September. Be sure to watch “The Observer” and this blog for notices of registration night and the first workout.

Also, the golf shirts have arrived… FINALLY! Sensei Kevin will be picking them up next week and will post a notice here when and where people can come pick them up.

In the meantime, be sure to be going through your katas and reviewing your basic techniques so that you’re in fighting shape when September comes!

Congratulations to all of our members for an excellent year of karate! Everyone has shown such great improvement in their karate skills and, hopefully, had some fun doing it!

We had another terrific tournament attended by karateka from Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba; we had a very successful grading in which many of our members were awarded new belts or stripes; many of our members attended several tournaments in Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba; and we welcomed 2 new black belts to our club: Senseis Kevin and Savanna! All in all, a pretty successful year.

Next week is our club wind up. No gi’s are needed. We’ll be having a barbeque and enjoying the company of our karate family. The Coffey family is providing the club with their famous burgers so please bring whatever you would like to eat along with the burgers to share with the rest of the members. Kind of a pot luck.

Be sure to keep up your karate over the summer! Remember that it only takes a few minutes to run through your katas and go through some of the basic techniques.

Keep checking this blog over the summer. Every once-in-a-while it is updated with info or interesting new “Words of Wisdom”.

Great work, tonight, everyone!

It is always interesting to learn where our martial art comes from and the video we watched tonight was very informational. As Sensei Joan said, “We are part of a family and this is our ‘Family Tree’.” As John Diefenbaker once said, “he who does not know the past can never understand the present, and he certainly can do nothing for the future.”

… to each of our members who attended the Selkirk tournament this weekend!

We had 7 members make the long drive out to Selkirk to participate in the Manitoba Provincial tournament and they all represented our club very well. Good job, everyone! We’ll ask how things went for you at the workout tomorrow.

DON’T FORGET… to tie your belts properly and to line up your shoes neatly along the sides of the entry to the dojo so people aren’t tripping over shoes and stepping in watery mud in the middle of the floor as they enter the dojo.

Duffle Bag Update

So it seems that Under Armour has changed their product line and the bags that we had previously used are no longer in production. Our supplier is meeting with the Under Armour reps to see about any availability of our bags and to look at the product that will be replacing it. Unfortunately, if we have to go with some kind of new product, it will not be available until mid-July. That means waiting until the fall to receive our bags.

We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.

Good luck to those members who are travelling to Selkirk this weekend for the Manitoba Provincial Tournament.

Just another reminder about the Manitoba Provincial Wado Kai Karate Tournament being held this weekend in Selkirk, MB.

Good luck to our members who said they would be attending. Remember to leave yourself plenty of time to get there. It “Googles” around 450 KM so it will take about the same amount of time to get there as it does to Saskatoon.

Also, remember that Sensei Jayson will be checking your belts and the shoes and boots at the door should be lined up neatly and to the side.

Another Tournament!

The Manitoba Provincial Wado Kai Karate Tournament has a new home and date this year. The new date is APRIL 27, 2013. That’s just around the corner. So anyone into tournament mode will appreciate that!

We don’t get too many other tournaments that are within reasonable driving distance from our club so when they do come up it’s great to try to support them. We’ll have the information and registration forms at the workout on Tuesday.

According to Google Maps, Selkirk is roughly 450 km from Carlyle. About the same distance as travelling to Saskatoon. It is just north and slightly east of Winnipeg. There’s a map at the bottom of this post.

CLINIC AND TOURNAMENT are held at the École Selkirk Junior High (516 Stanley Avenue) in Selkirk, MB

Registration / Sign in
For clinic and tournament: 9:00am – 10:00am
For tournament only: 12:00pm – 12:45pm

Costs

  • $10 per person for clinic
  • $20 per person for tournament (or $40 per family)
  • $25 per person if participating in both (or $60 per family)

Clinic:

10:00am – 12:00pm
Guest Instructor: Sensei Alby Morris, Nidan (2nd degree black belt)
Clinic will focus on self-defense techniques

Tournament:
Bow in / Divisions Determined: 1:00pm

Kyu Belt Competition: – 1:30pm

Black belt meeting to be held at 12:00pm following clinic
