Congratulations Cory!

… on being this year’s recipient of the Clinton McFarlane Memorial Cup!

This award was donated by the McFarlane family after Clinton was killed in an industrial accident at the Shand Power Station. He was a karateka from Carnduff who showed great dedication, spirit, and humility in his life and karate. He was the kind of person the Senseis wanted to introduce to Sensei Shintani. So that has become the unofficial criteria for receiving the cup. The Senseis who attend our tournament can all nominate someone whom they would “most like to introduce to Sensei Shintani”. They then vote on the nominees and the majority vote getter receives the trophy. The award can be won by any karateka who attends our tournament from any club.

Congratulations, Cory!

New Session Fees and the Next Tournament

Great workout tonight everyone!

Just another reminder to pay your fees for the new session that started today. Thank you.

Also, we have posted information regarding the next tournament in our area.

The Melitta Tournament is hosted by Sensei Alby Morris in the Melitta School Gym on Saturday, January 18, 2014. The morning is advertised as a “Self-Defense class focused on Female Assault”. Well, if you’ve never attended one of Sensei Alby’s self-defense classes, you really should go to this one. It IS NOT just for women!! Sensei will show you many techniques for a number of situations that leave us with no other method of escape. He is direct and the techniques he teaches are highly effective. It is definitely a self-defense clinic worth attending. The tournament itself is an excellent little tournament specifically designed to help develop confidence in tournament performance for karateka of all ages. It also provides new black belts and brown belt students an opportunity to learn to do some corner judging. It is a terrific little event and so close to us.

There are more details on our “Events” page.

New Session begins this week

Tuesday’s workout marks the start of Session 2 in our dojo. Please be sure to pay your fees promptly.

With weather conditions changing constantly, be sure to check here for any information regarding class cancellations. Please be sure to be careful when driving to and from the workouts and to consider potentially bad weather before coming to karate class.

See you at the dojo!

GREAT TOURNAMENT!

Thanks to everyone who participated in our tournament this weekend!

We had roughly 100 competitors in 21 divisions and everyone did very well. If this was your first tournament we hope that you found it enjoyable and rewarding. If you have attended other tournaments then you know how well this tournament went. It is the hope of all of our Senseis that many of our karateka make efforts to attend a number of tournaments not only to represent our club at different events but also to develop their skills and get martial insights from other Senseis.

Here are some images from the day. If you would like to share any that you captured, please email them to info@moosemountainkarate.com

… and the new Session begins, too!

Good workout last night, everyone! We’re sure the tournament will be very successful. For those of you who have participated in tournaments before, Good Luck! To those of you who will be entering your first karate tournament, we hope this tournament is a good introduction to a larger karate family.

Many of us who attend tournaments regularly do so not only for the thrill of competition but also to keep in touch with other karateka who have become good friends through the tournaments.

All you can do is your best. And remember to have fun! Stick around through the day before and after your event. Get involved. Offer to help out in some way. Like so many things, you get out of it what you put into it! See you at the tournament!

Also… next week is the start of SESSION 2. Please be prepared to pay your fees for the next session. They are the same as for Session 1.

So… SESSION 2 BEGINS ON TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3.

See you at the dojo.

Last Workout and Tournament THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!

Please bring your “gifts” for the prize table to the workout this week. You can give them to Payton. If you forget, you can still bring them on Saturday.

Our last workout before the tournament is our opportunity to make sure everything is order and ready to go for the weekend. That includes everyone’s kata and kumite preparation!

Be sure you are going through your tournament kata every day so that you can perform it with distractions. There will be quite a few people in the dojo that day so it’s easy to lose your focus.

Here is a letter about the tournament: 2013 tourney Letter

If you haven’t registered for the tournament online yet, here is a downloadable 2013 Tournament Registration for you to complete. Here is the online version: http://www.shintani.ca/index.php?option=com_chronoforms&chronoform=Saskatchewan

You may need to copy and paste that link into your browser window.

EVERYONE should really try to attend the clinic on Friday evening. There is no school that day either so the kids should be good and rested and ready for a good karate work out. Here is the schedule and a short note regarding the tournament.
