Classes and Tournaments

Regular classes resume next week, April 5.

The Saskatoon/Warman Tournament takes place next week as well on April 8 and 9 in Warman at the Legends Centre. Information can be found in previous posts and on our “Events” page.

There is a clinic being held on the Friday night featuring Sensei Denis and Sensei Sanford Dewitt from Ontario.

This event is always a lot of fun!

The Manitoba Provincial Tournament takes place on April 30 in Boissevain. More details on this event will be shared as it approaches.

It would be great to have as many of our members as possible attend both of these events.

Please speak to one of our Senseis if you require more information.

See you at the dojo!

CLASSES CANCELLED TONIGHT!

Karate classes have been cancelled tonight due to poor weather and road conditions.

There will be no classes next week because it is Spring Break.

We’ll see you again on April 5!!

Keep working! Remember the Saskatoon/Warman tournament coming up on April 8 and 9.

See you at the dojo!

Duffle Bags and Tournaments

Good job to everyone who participated in the Melita workshop on the weekend. Those who attended had an excellent self-defence workshop in the morning and an excellent workshop in the afternoon. Thanks to Sensei Alby and his club for hosting this awesome event.

DUFFLE BAGS/BACKPACKS ARE IN!! YAY!!!! We’ll be handing the bags out at class this week.

We are hot into “Tournament Season” now. The next two events are nearby and are great events. Members from these clubs also participate in our tournament, so it would be great to return the favour and attend theirs.

Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, 2016 – Saskatoon/Warman Tournament – “Living Skies Annual Wado Kai Karate Clinic and Tournament” – This event is held in Warman at the Legends Centre. Sensei Denis (8th Dan; Shintani Federation President) and Sensei Sanford Dewitt (5th Dan; National Team Kata Coach) will be presenting the clinic on the Friday night. The tournament portion will take place on Saturday.

Saturday, April 30, 2016 – Manitoba Provincial Wado Kai Karate Tournament – Boissevain, MB – With the Manitoba provincial being so close this year, it would be great if we could send many members to this event. This is Sensei Jeff Gervin’s club.

All of the Shintani events rely heavily on participation from not only their local members, but on visiting members from nearby clubs as well. Support our karate family, improve your skills, and meet new people! Attend on of the many clinics and tournaments sponsored by the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation.

Information can be found on these and other events on our “Events Page” and the Shintani Federation web site Events Page as well.

See you at the dojo!

Some Pics from Calgary Tournament – Melita Tournament Workshop this Saturday

Congratulations to all of our members who participated in the Calgary tournament this weekend! Everyone said they had a great time, and the tournament organizers were happy to have so many members of our club in attendance.

Here are a few pics we received from those who attended the event. We will share more images as we receive them.

Regular classes this week. Duffle bags will be arriving soon!

Also a reminder that the Melita Tournament Workshop is this Saturday. There is a Self-Defense clinic in the morning and the tournament workshop in the afternoon.

If any of you are planning to attend the Melita event, and would like to stay there for lunch, please inform Sensei Jayson in class this week. The organizers would like to know numbers in order to have enough food for everyone.

Good Luck!

Good luck to our members who are participating in the Calgary tournament this weekend!

We know you will have a great time and be awesome representatives for our club.

Make sure to meet someone new!

See you at the dojo!

Tournament Updates

Below is a list and brief explanation of some upcoming tournaments. Many members of these clubs have attended our tournament. It would be great if we could also go to their event and return the favour.

March 19, 2016 – MELITA “Competition Workshop” – Melita, MB

Sensei Alby calls this a “Learning Event” for all belt levels. It is a fantastic, small event, for our young karateka to develop ring experience and confidence. It is also a great place for Brown Belts and newer Black Belts to work on judging techniques. It is an excellent and enjoyable event that is close to our home dojo.

Sensei Alby will be holding a Self-defense workshop beginning at 10:00 am. This is an excellent workshop to learn effective self-defence techniques for a variety of situations.

After lunch, the workshop will move into Kata and Kumite events. Just like a regular tournament, participants will be divided into categories and will perform their kata and kumite and receive instruction on technique, and ring etiquette and techniques.

This is how Sensei Alby describes it.

This is a simulation tournament, and, as much as possible, a teaching event. Higher Kyu belts and junior Black Belts are encouraged to attend, to give them experience at corner judging.  SWKKF rules apply.  Remember, a disqualification means you are out of the event.

April 8/9, 2016 – LIVING SKIES ANNUAL WADO KAI KARATE CLINIC AND TOURNAMENT – Warman, SK – More info to come

This is an excellent, full-scale Saskatchewan tournament hosted by our friends and regular participants in our tournament. This tournament offers excellent, friendly competition at all belt ranks. Registration information will be posted soon. It would be great to see a good number of our members attend this tournament.

Other events will arise during the course of the season.

Those listed above are the events that our members attend most often. Tournament participation is a great way to meet new people. You will soon find that you have a group of “Tournament Buddies” with whom you will rise through the ranks together. The Shintani Federation events are all family oriented events and are great fun for all ages of karateka.

Saturday, April 30, 2016 – MANITOBA PROVINCIAL WADO KAI KARATE TOURNAMENT – Boissevain, MB

This is the annual Manitoba Provincial tournament. Many Shintani members from Manitoba attend our annual tournament so it would be great for us to return the favour! We will have more information soon.
