The Shintani National Team will be holding an open workout at Gordon F. Kells High School in Carlyle on Friday, November 20!
The workout is open to Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation members age 13 or Green belt and up.
There is no charge to attend the workout. Participants can make a voluntary donation.
The day will begin at 9:30 am with work on kata until lunch at 11:00 am. The workout will resume at 12:30 pm with kumite until 2:30 or 3:00 pm.
Lunch is being provided for the team members and coaches, guests will be provided with a list of local restaurants (Subway, A&W, Dairy Queen for fast food – The Office Bar and Grill as a sit down restaurant if you want to be late for the afternoon session).
There is no pre-registration required. Participants can just show up at the “gym” doors of G.F. Kells High School in time to change and warm up. The training begins promptly at 9:30 am.
This is an excellent opportunity for Shintani members in our area. If you have never trained with the team before, it is an excellent experience!
We are no longer having classes at the United Church on Tuesday!
Classes this week have been rescheduled for Thursday, November 19 in our regular dojo at the regular times. It was determined that the United Church simply would not have enough space to accommodate our full classes.
The classes this week will focus on tournament “etiquette” and procedures. Like many things in the martial arts, tradition and respect play a large role in the tournaments. Each student will have an opportunity to work on their kata and kumite in a tournament ring type setting.
It is important that members planning to attend the tournament make every effort to attend their class on Thursday. A secondary benefit to class being on Thursday, is that everything should be nice and fresh in everyone’s mind for the tournament on Saturday.
Hopefully everyone can make it to the rescheduled classes.
There is no need to wait until the tournament day to register!
You can register online through the Shintani Federation web site. Fees are collected at the tournament. The online registration form REQUIRES a passbook number. If you are a new member and don’t yet have a passbook, you can simply enter 1111 and it should accept your registration.
Below is a downloadable registration form from our own web site. The two forms are different, but both are acceptable. Tournament registration forms can be turned in at any time.
Everyone who registers MUST check in when arriving at the tournament. Fees are to be paid at check in. Registration can be done before the Friday night clinic OR before the beginning of the tournament on Saturday.
Family rates – Pay for 1st two family members (family rates apply to immediate family members living in the same residence)
The dance on Friday night is a “Closed” event. This means it is open only to members of the Shintani Wado Kai Karate Federation. There is NO CHARGE for this event.
There is a banquet Saturday evening. We are still waiting on a price. There is no family rate for the banquet.
