Summer Training

Summer is a terrific time for outdoor training sessions!

Practicing katas barefoot in the grass can be very therapeutic. The cool grass under your feet, the fresh air, and all that space contribute to invigorating sessions. Try starting by performing the katas slowly, almost like tai chi, and then gradually increase your speed and power until you’re performing the kata fully.

You can also try performing your katas with your eyes closed. Not only is this quite relaxing, but it will help develop your body awareness and balance. You may be surprised at just how tricky it can be to hit the correct angles in your katas when your eyes are closed!

We hope you are enjoying the summer, and that you are keeping up with your karate practice. As always, regular classes will resume shortly after the school year begins.

See you at the dojo!
