Regular Class Tonight

Just a reminder that there is regular class tonight.

Please bring your fees for Session 3 if you haven’t already done so. And don’t forget your passport books so you can get it updated.

There will be a workout next Tuesday if anyone will be around.

And don’t forget the Saskatoon Tournament on April 5 & 6.

See you at the dojo.

Saskatoon Tourney Hotel Reservations

Ok. Here’s the skinny on hotel rooms in Saskatoon for those members planning on attending the Saskatoon/Warman Tournament on April 5 & 6.

For some reason, hotels are quite booked up in Saskatoon for this particular weekend.

We were able to set up a small block of rooms for the Friday night only April 5, 2013. Here’s the details:

Days Inn Hotel
2000 Idyllwyld Drive North
(306)242-3297

Call the number above and ask to book a room under group name “Carlyle Karate” (it is shorter than Moose Mountain Wado Kai Karate Club!)

The rooms are Double Rooms with 2 queen size beds.

The rate is $139/night plus tax.

They only had 6 rooms available so you better call soon!

The cut-off date is March 25. You must reserve your room by this date or the remaining rooms will be released.

There will handouts with this information at our class on Tuesday.

See you at the dojo.

Be careful!

Be careful anyone who may be travelling this weekend. Once again, the weather doesn’t sound like it’s going to be good.

Here is the information for the Saskatoon tourney once again. Saskatoon Tourney Notice 2013 We’re looking into setting up a block of rooms for any of our members interested in going. We’ll keep you informed.

Good workout last week everyone! We’ll see you Tuesday.

Good Luck…

… to everyone who is participating in the South Calgary Wado Kai Karate Tournament this weekend. We know it will be a great tournament.

Have a great weekend.

See you at the dojo.

Workout Tomorrow

Tomorrow, February 5, will be the last day to turn in shirt orders. If you wish to order one, please complete an order form and leave a cheque with one of the Senseis.

Also, don’t forget to sign the participation form for the Saskatoon/Warman tournament in April. We’ll be looking at that soon to determine what the club can do for arrangements. It would be great to see lots of participation in that tournament.

Don’t forget to keep preparing for your grading. It’s coming soon!

See you at the dojo.

Good to be back at it!

It was nice to see everyone back after an extended winter break! The Melitta Teaching Tournament is taking place as we write this and things are running smoothly.

The South Calgary Wado Kai Karate Tournament is coming up on March 8 and 9, 2013. Below is a link for the informational package and the registration form. This is one of the largest Wado tournaments in Western Canada and the members of our club who have attended have all really enjoyed the event.

Also, we would like our members to consider attending the Saskatoon/Warman Tournament which is being held on April 5 and 6. This is the last weekend of the Easter break so our younger members wishing to attend the workshop AND the tournament wouldn’t have to worry about missing school.

If there are enough members interested in attending this tournament, there is a chance we could arrange transportation for all of us and one of the senseis could look into accomodation arrangements. There will be a SIGN UP sheet at the next workout. More information about the tournament will follow soon. The Saskatoon/Warman Clubs have been strong supporters of our tournament for a number of years and it would be great to see our club return the favor. It is a fairly large tournament in a very nice facility and it gives us a chance to visit beautiful Saskatoon.

And lastly… remember to keep practicing for the upcoming GRADING. Your grading forms are due, along with any outstanding fees, at the workout on Tuesday, January 22.

See you at the dojo.

Great Tournament!

Well done and congratulations, everyone, on another successful Provincial Karate Tournament!

It was great to see so many of our students participating in the weekend’s events from the workout on Friday night through the tournament and banquet on Saturday. Hopefully everyone met a new “karate friend” from another club and can look forward to seeing that friend at future tournaments. It is these connections and friendships built between clubs and provinces that strengthen and support our national Federation and keep us growing into the future.

For our visiting clubs… Thank you for coming so far to take part in our tournament! It is always a treat to have you visit us and we hope to return the visit to your clubs.

We’re back to regular classes in our home dojo this week. We look forward to hearing your stories from the tournament. Sensei Jayson has a good one.

See you at the dojo.

Great Workout! You’re Ready!

Well done last night, everyone.

It’s great that so many of our students are attending the tournament this weekend. Everyone’s kata has really sharpened up in the past 2 weeks and your kumite looks strong as well. Just be confident in your competition and do your best. That’s all anyone can do.

Remember what Sensei Shintani once said, “You are not finished when you lose. You are finished when you quit.”

See you at the tournament.

Here’s a map to the high school where the tournament is being held.

Class Tonight…

We’ll be having our regular classes tonight.

Just for Kicks at 6:30 and the Jr’s and Adults at 7:30.

We’re preparing hard for the tournament and we’ll be asking for volunteers tonight to help with various aspects of the tournament weekend.

See you tonight!

Time to Start Preparing…

for our annual tournament.

Each year, we host the SK Provincial Wad0-Kai Karate Tournament and it is always a terrific success. But only because we work together to make it that way!

The tournament draws over 100 people annually from Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta and often has guests from Ontario as well. Naturally, to have an event like this run smoothly, we must ask people to take on certain responsibilities. But many hands make light work and if we all pitch in to help out no single job is very difficult.

We have only 2 workouts left to prepare for the tournament so next week we will be asking for volunteers for certain jobs on the tournament weekend. Since we’ll all be there (wink wink), it is easier to help out with some of these jobs.

We’ll need help with score keeping and timing (we’ll teach you how to do it; it’s really easy), canteen (including people to run the BBQ’s if that’s what’s decided), perhaps a prize table like our kids have at hockey tournaments, an equipment/merchandise table, and some other jobs as well. Come to the workout next week with your “Volunteer Hat” on!

This tournament has been running in Carlyle for over 25 years! Let’s make this the best one yet!!

Oh, and don’t forget to practice your kata!
