CONGRATULATIONS!!
… for another great Provincial tournament!
Many of our members were able to participate this year which always makes the tournament that much better! We also had a good turn out at the clinic on Friday night! Everyone worked really hard and many of our members received recognition for their hard work. Way to go, everyone!
Keep checking here and our YouTube page for pictures and video highlights from the tournament.
We’re going to start planning right away for next year’s 30th Anniversary Saskatchewan Provincial Tournament! You won’t want to miss it!
Regular classes this week as we begin to prepare for our grading.
See you at the dojo!
Tournament Registration and Information Forms
Here are the tournament registration and information forms. The information flyer has been corrected to have ALL the correct dates instead of some correct dates and some old dates!! Thank you to those who pointed out our forgetfulness!
Registration will take place before the clinic on Friday, and Saturday morning before the tournament begins as indicated on the information flyer.
We realize that tomorrow’s class is at the same time as Student Led Conferences at the school, but we’re hoping that everyone will make every effort to attend both. Remember that it is our goal in karate to teach our students discipline and respect in all areas of their lives… especially school.
Here are the forms:
1 Class Left!!
… Until our tournament!!
This week we’ll be setting up a “mock” tournament to give everyone an idea what to expect on the weekend.
Be sure to be around to help out anywhere it looks like we could use a hand. Try to take in the whole weekend from the Friday night clinic through the Saturday tournament and banquet. They are both a lot of fun and the company is fantastic. Be sure to make a new friend!!
Don’t forget to pick up a small, inexpensive gift for the prize table. The gift can be for an adult or child. We will be selling 10 packs of numbers that people buy and drop into the prize of their preference. At the end of the day, we draw from each prize’s little baggie to determine who wins that prize.
Here, again, is the information regarding the Clinic and Tournament along with the registration form.

YES… There IS karate this Tuesday, Remembrance Day!
As we announced at karate class last week, there WILL BE karate this week even though it is Remembrance Day. We are just too close to the tournament not to have classes.
Also at tomorrow’s class, we will be asking for you to sign up to help with various aspects of the tournament. Everything from bringing baking/desserts to score keeping is needed to make our tournament a success. Our members have always been great at helping out!!
JACKETS HAVE ARRIVED! They will also be available at tomorrow’s workout if you have paid your balance.
See you at the dojo!

Regular Class and Tournament Prep
Our tournament is only a couple of weeks away! We’ll be finalizing arrangements and going through tournament etiquette at the next few classes to prepare.
Please be prepared to help out with the tournament. We will be needing volunteers to help with the canteen, prize table, and registration table as well as people willing to be timers and score keepers. We will be explaining all of these roles in the coming classes.
EVERYONE should be entering our tournament. The tournaments really are great places to meet new friends and extend your own “karate family”! Winning is not the focus. The focus is to try your hardest and achieve a personal best. Sensei Shintani, himself, said, “You are not finished when you lose; you are finished when you quit.” Come to the clinic on Friday, November 21 and the tournament on Saturday, November 22! You’ll be glad you did.
Regular Class This Week
We’re back to our regularly scheduled classes this week.
Our tournament is a little over a month away so we’ll be finalizing arrangements in the classes ahead. Just a reminder to our new, and returning, karateka that this is the Provincial Wado Kai tournament and volunteers are needed to help everything run smoothly.
We strongly encourage ALL of our members to participate in this tournament and other Shintani tournaments; even our very youngest members! Jump in right away. Don’t “… wait for next year.” The Shintani tournaments and clinics are all great events to meet new people who share a common interest. In fact, it’s kind of an unwritten Shintani law that you must make a new friend at every event you attend. The tournaments are wonderfully supportive and full of people who have been, or are currently in, the same stage of karate development as you. We all know the struggles of trying to learn a tricky kata (or completely blowing your kata in a tournament) or technique which makes us all uniquely qualified to support each other as we progress through the ranks.
Give the tournament a try; especially the Friday night clinic. You’ll be glad you did!
See you at the dojo.
